In 2019 WQED documentarian Aidan McGarvey emailed us and asked if we would be willing to make, with them, a 1 minute documentary for their “Just a Minute” series - a selection of short (you guessed it) 1 minute documentaries. All of them, in some way, relevant to the current culture of Pittsburgh.
“Just a minute…” I told him, “no. That won’t work.”
The richness of the current state of the Pittsburgh Circus Culture at large is far bigger than just the Pittsburgh Circus Arts Collaborative. It is something that also includes Iron City Circus Arts, the Stolen Stitches Sideshow, The Starry Messenger, Icky Vicky, The Miracle Elixir Sideshow and so much more.
“I’m sorry,” I told him, “you have to show the whole picture. Not just us.”
Aiden quickly understood and after a few days came back to us with an offer of 10 minutes.
“That’ll work just fine,” I tell him.
This is the final result.
We are eternally grateful for not only WQED and Aiden but also everyone involved in this short (Emmy nominated!) Pittsburgh based documentary.
A snapshot in time in 2019 - here is a monument that truly expresses who and what the Pittsburgh Circus Culture is.
